WHAT IS E-PAPER?

Contrary to what many people believe Electronic Shelf Labels are not showing information on an LCD screen – it is actually using paper. The paper is called E-paper and is a technology that mimics the appearance of paper. Using the same inks as the traditional printing industry, e-paper displays (EPDs) have tiny capsules filled with actual ink particles – much like an inkjet printer. When a small current – called a waveform – is applied, an EPD creates highly detailed text with the contrast ratio and readability of printed material. The text is not relying on power to be shown, once written it will be visible for the lifetime of the e-paper. In order to change the text, you need to use a very small current to inject a new waveform.
